Recipe Ingredients
Sponge cake
Strawberry or raspberry jelly (jam)
Sherry or the juice of an orange.
3 bananas
A can of ready to serve custard
½ a pint of whipping cream (double cream)
Decoration for trifle ie shredded (grated) chocolate, chocolate
chips, or colored sugar strands.
Trifle Preparation and cooking instructions
First slice or break up the sponge cake(s) into fairly small
pieces. Then spread each piece with some strawberry or raspberry
jelly (jam).
Next place them in the bottom of a glass bowl and pour over
a little sherry, just enough to soak the sponge pieces, or
if you prefer not to use sherry the juice of an orange is
an excellent alternative.
Then heat the custard and whilst it is warming slice the
bananas and arrange on top of the sponge pieces. Next pour
the heated custard over the sponges and bananas. When the
custard is cold whip up the cream and carefully spread on
top of the custard.
Finally decorate the trifle with whatever you like although
if using chocolate or sugar strands it’s best to sprinkle
them on at the last minute.
